Participatory budgeting

An e-sports event will be organized in the area, where young people can play with other young people who are interested in the subject. Equipment for gaming, such as a mouse, keyboard or headphones, will be purchased as prizes for the event. Electronic sports, i.e. e-sports, is playing a video game competitively, and e-sports games are divided into several sub-genres. The most typical game types are RTS strategy games, FPS shooter games, MOBA arena games, Sports games and rhythm and dance games. The biggest competitions are shown on streaming services like Twitch, where they can have tens of millions of viewers. Separate commercial leagues and tournament series are common around the world, but competitive gaming in Finland has grown strongly in connection with demo events and LAN events.

Location

At the youth center or in another space suitable for organizing the event.

Objectives

Young people get to practice event production, meet other like-minded young people and gain experience in competitive gaming.

Procedures

Together with the young people, the content and time of the event are planned and the practical arrangements are taken care of. We decide the scope of the event and the games it contains, as well as the time of the event. We are looking for partners and suitable premises for the event.

Target group

Young people over the age of 12, following the age limits of each game to be played.

How do young people participate in the implementation?

Young people play a big role in making the event happen. Interested young people form an organizing team that plans and implements the event together with the youth guides. Young people are hired by the hour to organize the event and to run it during the event, as well as e.g. to the cafe.

What other actors are needed to be involved

If necessary, the event can be carried out with the joint efforts of youth services and young people, but if cooperation parties focused on e-sports are involved, it would make the event of higher quality and both more useful and attractive for young people.
